Progress Nude Crew - 34 Fragment Remixez

Now this is some ill stuff right here. Japan's Progress Nude Crew (Hiro aka Melodiverse and DJ Ryo aka Questello) remixes a slew tunes you know and love.

Although this remix collection is pretty long (2 cds worth) all remixes are pretty outstanding. PNC's soulful vibes will make your head nod and satisfy all your Hip Hop needs. These remixes are so dope I'm even including some on my upcoming mix "The Producer's Journey".

Inphy - The Remixtape

The Czech Republic's 19 year old beatmaker Inphy seems to have a good ear for samples and has made a pretty solid remix album. Listening to this makes me wonder why with young beatmakers out there like Inphy did Rakim have such weak wack music for the Seventh Seal?

One thing to note you'll notice a remix (track 7) that features somebody well known to many mixtape fans..... Supa Qool DJ Uncle Q aka DJ Quatermaine.

And for digital deejays these are 320kbps mp3s.

Cee & Bekah - The Soul Movement Originals

An Australian Soul/Hip Hop duo consisting of an white emcee and Desi singer? You know this either works great or fails miserly. You also know I don't post wack stuff so trust me this duo can deliver with the good music.

Australia’s Cee & Bekah have been dropping The Soul Movement mixtapes (Here) since 2007. After three volumes of the mixtape they have finally released an full length album.

The Producer's Journey Vol 1 & 2

I got the idea for this mix from the Bad Things Come in 3's series from DJ Dopeshoes and Lost Remixes by DJ C Los. With so many great productions over the years it seemed like a no-brainer to pay tribute to the many producers that shaped and (still) support the true Hip Hop sound we all love so well.

Unlike Volume one on Volume 2 I added more producers and limited song selection to 2 songs for each producer. For volume three I think I will keep that format  as well.

Hexsagon - A Decade Of Remixes

I'm new to Hexsagon's production work but this mix of of a decade's worth on material is solid as can be. I would describe Hexsagon's style as DJ Premier meets Kev Brown meets DJ Muggs. Sounds good doesn't it? This mix by Mr. Mo is as good as you can imagine.

DJ Muggs and Bambu - Los Angeles Philippines Mixtape

Here's some new Soul Assassins for you today. Many of the beats are a little mediocre for my taste but one track "Heist" is as good as any other Muggs produced track.

The "mixed" version is nothing but recording of a past West Wing radio show and overall the mastering on the tracks is a little off. The vocals by Bambu seem to be a few decibels too loud for some of the tracks but it's still worth a listen.

Mohammad Dangerfield - Free 99

New Jersey's Hasan Salaam and NYC's Rugged N Raw join forces to bring you one of my favorite albums of 2010. I'm new to Rugged N Raw but Hasan Salaam has been on radar for years now. He always brings it raw and gritty and with "Mohammad Dangerfield" he continues to give you the dope raw Hip Hop you'll expect.

One strange thing to note: Although the song "The BBQ Joint" was released as the first single (and video) off the album. The song is not contained within "Free $.99". However I included it within the zip file as bonus song.

Lady Tribe Lazy K - NY 2 LA

Two members of the Murda Mamis, one from East Coast and the other from the West Coast combined to produce, I believe, the first all female deejays mixtape. Some of you many recognize Lady Tribe as Nikki from her disastrous disgusting appearance on Rock of Love 3. Despite what you saw on the show Tribe is a well known and respected person within the So Cal graff scene.

Known as one the best mixtape deejays DJ Lazy K has been putting it down for years in NYC. She started out in 1991 within the NY battle scene so you know she got skillz. Lately she tends to lean towards the more commercial side with her mixtapes for my taste but this mixtape from 2006 is decent enough.

Swiff LaRoc - A Arte De Malabarisimo

I saw this on various blogs a week or so ago but due to the Portuguese title (The Art Of Juggling) I'm assumed it was Brazilian breaks mix. After Swiff LaRoc sent me a email last week I decided to give his mix a listen. My original assumption was totally wrong it's extraordinary (mostly) Hip Hop blends mix.

Don't let the title of fool you this is one mix for your collection.

Common Repackaged

Over the course of 5 weeks we put up Common acapellas and had producers submit their best remixes. After some bumps in the road we had a vote and the final tracklist was chosen.
The Backpacked

There's been a deluge of Common remixes over the years and I'm not gonna front and say this the best of them all. That distinction goes to Beatnick & K Salaam (HERE) and Soul Supreme & Statik Selektah (HERE). However, a couple of tunes are solid and the rest are worth a listen. The Boomjacks Go Remix is one of best remixes of  "Go"  I've heard ever.

DJ jazzy Jeff and Questlove - The Roots Picnic Mix

In Philadelphia the hometown of The Roots at the annual The Roots Picnic for the first time ever there was a live performance featuring drummer/producer ?uestlove & DJ Jazzy Jeff. The Magnificent Jazzy Jeff  rocks samples and classic Hip Hop while ?uestlove plays some funky drums with Mad Skillz on mic. Similar to Bobo Meets Rhettmatic that was released a few months ago. This mix is definitely one for the your archives. No tracklisting but I think most will know the names of all tunes played.

Von Pea - So Motivational

Magazines and bloggers alike rave about the Hip Hop trio Tanya Morgan. Honestly I'm not much of fan but I'm sure many of you are. So in that spirit....

Tanya Morgan's Von Pea who dropped the Further Adventures of Von Pea in 2008 comes with a little teaser to hold ya'll over until new album "Pea's Gotta Have It" drops in September.

Trainspotters - Fan First

In 2009 Sweden's Trainspotters dropped some fabulous tracks now in 2010 they keep coming fresh to def.

"Fan First" produced by Academics gives a G funk style to Trainspotters usual underground sound.  Their previous work I'm digging a little bit more but track does has it's appeal.

The single is off both their new album "Dirty North" and Sweden's Hip Hop compilation entitled Evolution. In these days of autotune, talking instead rapping and skinny jeans you have give props to to these heads from Northern Europe not afraid to drop a Hip Hop track.

Black Sheep - Birds Of A Feather ft. Native Tongues

Does it feel great to hear the Native Tongues back together? Hell yeah it does!

Black Sheep's "Birds Of A Feather", from new LP The Black Pool Of Genius (June 29), features Dave (Trugoy) of De La Soul, Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest, and Mike Gee of The Jungle Brothers. It's too bad Monie Love couldn't spit a verse on this great  Fiona Apple sampled ridden Tough Junkie produced track.

Frank Nitti - Go Girl

This new joint displays the sad journey of Detroit's Frank Nitti (Frank n Dank) from underground emcee to hipster rapper .

Go Girl, the single off the six-track EP Jewels in my Backpack released by the early 90's label, Delicious Vinyl is depressing and insult to true heads. Autotune and real Hip Hop DON'T go together....ever.

However on another note the video is hella fly. I have admit that. You gotta love anything with DJ Rhettmatic and the whole vibe is throwback to days when Hip Hop in the mainstream was about hvaing fun.

Ras Kass - The Endangered Lyricist Vol. 1 and 2

Gearing up for the release of the forthcoming A.D.I.D.A.S. (All Day I Dream About Spittin’) album produced by DJ Rhettmatic. Ras Kass posted two compilations to raise awareness of the legacy of John Austin . The new album was entirely funded by fans through donations to his site SaveTheRasKass.com.

The album is a limited edition CD & Vinyl so those who can grab a copy of either should do so as I'm sure the pairing of Ras Kass & DJ Rhettmatic will be collector's in the near future.

Now for those who don't know...realize and recognize the greatness of Ras Kass

The New York emcee Final Outlaw drops a monster tune with release of "Rice & Beans". The first single off his "Unstoppable Love" album. Featuring Brooklyn emcee Niles and produced by 19 year old Spainard Levenkhan with scratches by Germany's Chinch 33 this is as hard as it gets within Hip Hop. I haven't heard a tune this hard (or good) since 2004's "Lean Back". I expect good things from Final Outlaw in future.

Elevated Ruffians - Magnificent Soul

In 2009 the San Bernardino trio Magnificent Ruffians teamed up with Los Angeles based producers Elevated Soul to form Elevated Ruffians. The end result of their combined efforts is a double CD worth of good quality 9th Wonderish boom bap Hip Hop laced with a touch of a soulful groove.

Good news for Hip Hop fans they have recently released the album for free though the album is still for sale. A free double CD of music? In today's musical landscape this usually means a collection of throwaway tracks release for marketing. Not this time this is the real deal. This is Mag Ruff at their best. enjoy

Here's another leak from the new Murs & 9th Wonder collabo Fornever. Being that the album was sold yesterday at the Paid Dues Festival (here in my hometown) the album should be hitting the net soon.

Mr J Mederios - Art Of The Broken Glass

Mr. J Medeiros has released his 2009 EP The Art Of The Broken Glass for free. Maybe because his second album,Friends,Enemies,Apples,Apples wasn't received well by the fans. Whatever the reason these four songs produced by Bonnie Mayfield leave all the songs upon his second album (FEAA) in dust. In my opinion "The Measure" was within the top five songs released in 2009. Hopefully this year Mr. J can get back on track and start producing joints that rival his previous great work.

Laura's Tape - Don Will And King Most

Tanya Morgan's Don Will drops this mixtape centered around the 2000 film High Fidelity. The same theme as his upcoming album "Don Cusack in High Fidelity" (March 23rd, 2010)

"The mixtape is a continuation of the album's concept," says Donwill about the movie-themed concept that ties both projects together. "In High Fidelity, the movie peaks as the lead character, Rob Gordon, is making a mixtape for his long-time love interest, Laura. This mixtape references that moment, and that's why I thought it fit so well with the Valentine's Day theme."
Don Will

Unlike most mixtapes which features a host of songs from an upcoming album this mixtape only includes 2 songs from Don Cusack in High Fidelity album,"Love Junkie" and "I See You".

However, the first single from Don will's album Laura's Song can be purchased on itunes HERE

Rob Jay - Old School Flow

New music from Houston's Rob Jay for the new year!

As of last year Rob has been gaining fans all across the world with his Prelude to the Art Life, The Art Life and Video Rob Is Dead releases. Now not wanting those not in know to miss the fact he is a Houston emcee Rob drops this southern mid-tempo joint called "Old school Flow".

"One thing that I really want to stress in 2010 is that I'm from Houston. I think my music combined with many people's pre-conceived notion of what Texas music is has maybe led people into assuming that I'm from somewhere else. But I'm a Texan, and even though "Old School Flow" takes an almost satirical view of how we rhymed as adolescents, I hope it also reminds listeners that I'm still in touch with my roots"

Cypress Hill - It Aint Nothin

Brand new Cypress Hill for the new year. It sounds a little different, more mainstream sounding, than previous Cypress tunes. However, it still contains that ruggedness the Hill is always bring to the table.

Recorded over three weeks in Luleå,Sweden while Young Ivy was on holiday from attending Dartmouth College. The album is quite impressive for two guys from Sweden.

The Conjugal Visit features that quality Boom Bap mixed with Soul music so many Hip Hop fans around world love. It’s so refreshing to hear people outside of the US bringing good music to the masses.

E Reece and Inka One - Art & Commerce

Maryland's E Reece just can't make wack music.Who can match his consistency? Other than Minnesota's Brother Ali I can't think anybody else. E Reece brings that much needed quality lyricism and musicality so lacking in Hip Hop landscape today. E Reece = good music.period!

If after listening E Reece he doesn't become your new favorite emcee something is seriously wrong with your ears.

Pack FM - Happy Days

Great idea or corniness exemplified? I can't decide but internet darlings Pack FM drops a new tune upon us for the new year. Produced by Tonedeff the song touches upon the changes within hip hop landscape. Whether Pack FM is the right group and has the right credentials to speak upon this topic is another matter. Nonetheless the song "Happy Days" has a somewhat charming quality to it.
